Steve Salcedo, age 32 of Islip, died tragically on May 5, 2026. Steve was born and raised in Freeport, a town he never stopped loving.

In school, Steve was known as the class clown--the kid who would make the whole room laugh. He became a father at just 18 years old. Rather than let his age deter him, it strengthened his resolve to provide a better life for his daughter.  He achieved this by earning a degree in nursing.

Steve carried his gift for making people laugh as a youngster into adulthood. As a registered nurse working with psychiatric patients, his warmth and humor were his shining attributes. He had the rare ability to make others feel seen, safe and understood.

Steve never cared about appearances. He’d throw on his oldest shirt and walk out the door. Think Adam Sandler: He was completely comfortable in his own skin. What he cared about was people and soccer.

Steve was deeply empathetic, endlessly genuine, and had the biggest heart of anyone you’d ever meet. He encouraged the people around him to chase their dreams, and believed in them, even when they didn’t believe in themselves.

Above all, Steve was a family man. “Family is family”, was his saying and he lived it every single day. He sacrificed everything for his three children whom he adored so much [and they adored him]; Khloe (age 14), Julian (age 5), and Jesse (age 3). There was nothing in this world he wouldn’t do for them. Being their dad was the role he was most proud of.  In addition to Steve's children, he leaves behind his mother Maria, sister Valentina, many relatives, lifelong friends and all who knew and loved him...people lucky enough to call him theirs.

He will be deeply missed, and forever loved.
