Georgi Antar Profile Photo

Georgi was a loving mother, a devoted wife and a compassionate advocate for humanity, whose life was defined by her unwavering dedication to helping others. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to improving the lives of children, supporting families, and bringing hope to those who had experienced profound hardship and suffering.

She believed in the dignity of every human being and the importance of helping people overcome adversity, heal from trauma and build better futures.

Her pathway toward her devoted interest in early child development began long before she began her formal education. Born in Irvington New Jersey, raised in Florida, she studied dance and theater at an early age. Working as a dance and movement therapist for children somehow steered her to education and Columbia University in NYC. She graduated Cum Laude and received her B.A. degree with a major in political science and a minor in Asian and African studies. Her passion was always to work with children which brought her to Bank Street College, where she majored in Special Education and pursued her interest in early intervention. She graduated with an M.S. degree in education and moved on to obtain her Doctorate (PsyD) in clinical neuropsychology at Pace University. A pathway that enabled her to train and work with Margaret Mead, Margaret Mahler, Jerome Bruner and Dr. Stella Chase. Professionally, Georgi was a developmentalist, clinical psychologist, neuropsychologist, an expert in child development and psychopathology as well as a specialist on the impact of trauma in children. She taught graduate courses at Long Island University, was a director of a therapeutic nursery school, and a designer of developmental programs for children with special education needs at Bank Street.

Yet, beyond her many professional achievements, Georgi's greatest legacy was the love and devotion she gave to her family. As a wife and mother, she embodied the same compassion, strength and dedication that defined her life's work.

Not everything was work for her. She was an excellent cook and took pride in preparing and arranging family gatherings. Her early years as a dance movement therapist allowed her to show off her dance moves on the dance floor at numerous celebratory events.

Aside from her private practice, for two years Georgi served as President of Bank Street Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Trustees.

Because of her extensive background in psychology and international issues, she was chosen to be the Chair of the United Nations NGO committee on mental health in 2014-2015.

Georgi was more that psychologist, educator and humanitarian. She was an advocate for humanity-a woman who dedicated her life to making the world a kinder, more understanding, and more compassionate place.

Her life made a difference and her legacy will endure.

Georgi passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2026.  She is survived by her husband, Robert Antar, M.D., her sons David and Ari (wife Yeli) and grandchildren Jonathan, Jordan and Lilah.

A private graveside service was held.
