The Honorable Joseph Slavin passed away peacefully at his Long Beach home on September 18, 2022, surrounded by family. He leaves behind his cherished wife and sweetheart of 67 years, Arden, beloved children Barton (Amy)Slavin, Pamela Slavin Barnett, and the late NYPD Lt. Zachary (Debora) Slavin, and grandchildren Stuart, Jeffrey, Bradley, Rachel, Hannah, and Alexandra.
Judge Slavin grew up in The Bronx as a child of immigrants. He served in the US Army as a radio specialist during WWII in Patton’s Army in France and Germany, arriving two days following D-Day. After the war, he attended NYU Law School and obtained a Master’s in Taxation.
His pursuits outside of work included serving as Chairman of the Board of Menorah Nursing Home, President of Avenue R Synagogue of Brooklyn, and an honored member of the Humanity Club, a charity that supported worthwhile projects locally and abroad.
In retirement, Judge Slavin and his wife enjoyed traveling as well as studying with an interfaith group to find commonality in all of us to make the world a better place.
Services and interment private. Shiva will be held on Tuesday 9-20-22 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm, and Wednesday 9-21-2022 from 3:00PM – 9:00PM at 537 West Beech Street, Long Beach, NY. Donations in his memory can be made at a charity of your choice.
